Freshers' Kitchen Essentials

Arriving at uni can be intimidating and scary. A new place, new people and for some of you the first giant leap into the realm of looking after yourselves. We know that it can be an especially stressful time so it’s important to make sure that you keep yourself healthy. We’ve devised this tool kit to help you do just that. So here's a guide to everything you'll need to stock your kitchen cupboard.
Utensils
Frying Pan (Large): generally for cooking meat but also good for late night drunken slapstick re-enactments
Saucepan (Medium): for pasta, rice, and sauces. If you can afford it, it’s good to have a small saucepan as well, because it’s more effi cient for cooking things like eggs and gravy.
Knife (small): Quality of knives can vary so much. Again, if you can afford a decent one it’ll be worth it in the long run, however if you’re in halls where you stuff if going to be shared a smaller cheap one is advised. Check out this amazing studen deal for 5 Jean Patrique Knives for just £1.99!
Spatula, wooden spoons (x2), cheese grater, can opener, bottle opener, oven gloves, a sieve & chopping board.
These items are less vital but will come in useful. You can pick them up cheap from charity shops, eBay or maybe persuade your parents to donate them to you.
Toaster: many students live on toast alone!
Kettle: for boiling up cup-a-soup
A Wok: for communal stir fry night
Measuring Jug: for… measuring stuff
Whisk: for beating eggs
Tupperware: in various sizes, for storing leftovers
Cupboard Necessities
Washing Up Liquid
Salt and Pepper
Olive Oil
Soy Sauce
Dried Pasta/ Spaghetti
And, of course, you’ll need loads of plates, cutlery, glasses and mugs. We’d suggest at least two of everything.
